Key reasons to upgrade from AVIC-U310BT:
On the Map
The easy-to-operate Pioneer Navigation system has built-in maps that put the world at your fingertips. This includes major points of interest, such as restaurants, ATMs, gas stations, entertainment venues and more. The built-in Text-to-Speech engine clearly pronounces turn-by-turn direction and street names to ensure smooth travels. The AVIC-X710BT also offers high-resolution 2D and 3D maps with renderings of nearby landmarks and terrain to help navigate the world around you.
AVIC Feeds
The system's database is fully expandable with AVIC feeds, Pioneer's PC application, which lets you create custom trips and your own points of interest.
Voice Control
The Z-Series offers convenient voice-activated navigation, which allows you to simply say an address or find nearby points of interest.
Bridge the Gap
Start Planning your route before you even step into your car with the free AVIC FEEDS app. Now you can seamlessly use your iPhone with your Pioneer navigation receiver. Simply find your destination with the built-in Google Maps interface and transfer it via Bluetooth for easy, turn-by-turn directions.
Picture Yourself There
The AVIC FEEDS app also allows you to use the geo-tag data in your photos to be routed directly to places you've visited. The built-in GPS feature of iPhone 3G and 3GS has the ability to embed geo-tag information in the photos you take with its camera. AVIC FEEDS allows you to save destinations by reading these geo-tags. You can also use AVIC FEEDS to create destinations from geo-tagged photos that are sent to your iPhone.
With the optional cable (CD-IU230V) connected to your iPod, you will notice how easily you can find songs, videos, artists, or playlists with a few simple taps of your finger. The AVIC-X710BT also features voice-activated control of your iPod. Simply say the name of an artist, album, playlist, or genre to bring up the next song.

From USB Device
If you don't feel like burning CDs just throw the MP3/WMA/AAC/WAV files you want on a USB device and enjoy.

I love this navi. It works great. It calculates rooutes fast and it automatically recalculate on its own. A must have if u have a compatible clarion tv.
The unit is great except when you plug in Ipod you can not view a playlist or menu of the Ipod. The price is another thing, it is a little pricey. If the price is set under 0.00, I believe a lot of people will buy it-but don't get me wrong, I love it!! You have access to USB/AV in the front panel unlike many Multi/Nav system, you have to access the USB/AV at the rear of the unit. Touchscreen(LCD)of the system, responds well with the touch. All and all is beautiful Multi/Navigation system.

I bought this for my Pioneer Headunit (AVIC-X920BT) and it fits great. I noticed the X920BT had the same screen size as the D3 so I decided to find out for myself if it would fit. When it arrived I noticed that the Invisible Shield was slightly larger than the visible screen area which made me worried that it wouldn't work. But I decided to try it anyway the trick I used was to wet the back side of the Invisible Shield so that when I put it down I could slide it into place. So the Shield ends up under part of the bezel which is fine, well in fact, awesome because it leaves none of the screen susceptible to scratches. The X920BT has a resistive screen :(, which I got lied to about, but the Shield does not affect performance at all. It is a little sticky but once you break it in you won't notice that it's there other than that you screen won't have any scratches!
I bought this mostly for hiking and also for geocaching. For those uses this GPS does all you need. Sure the base map comes with only the larger highways and basically no landmarks aside from large lakes and points marking towns; but if I do a little planning ahead I don't need the map.
What I do is trace with paths, or mark with points any landmarks that are important for where I will be going in google earth. I export these to a free 3rd party software (GPS Trackmaker) that will allow me to open google earth KML files and save out a GPX file which I can then open with the included software (Mapsource) and transfer to the device. This sounds complicated but it's really a quick operation and allows me to use google earth for everything which is the point.
You can also buy maps for it if this is too much work for you. The great thing about my process though is you learn a lot about where you're going before hand from your exploration in google earth which can be invaluable.
My only complaint(why its 4 stars instead of 5) is it only supports 20 saved paths. I haven't really needed more than that yet but I'm sure at some point I will considering I'm using saved paths to mark roads, rivers, creeks, trails and other landmarks in the area I intend to visit.
Aside from the 20 paths you also get the 10,000 point "track log" which is just one very long path that it makes automatically as you travel. I enjoy this feature a lot and google earth does support loading all the paths and waypoints directly from the GPS so its not an involved process to view your recent exploits in google earth.
If you want something that doesn't require any tinkering you'd better double your price range; otherwise this is a great device.
